Gareth Naylor

Gareth is an ex professional rugby league player and the current Head Coach of Hunslet ARLFC under 15s.  He is also the son of the late 80’s flying Leeds RLFC winger, Terry Naylor. Gareth signed professional terms with Wigan RLFC shortly after leaving school aged 16.  He played in their academy team before suffering a broken jaw and depressed cheekbone fracture.  He then signed semi-professional terms with Hunslet RLFC where he played for 10 seasons.

Gareth is an expert in matters relating to Sports injuries and has also represented sporting victims of dangerous and reckless challenges which have caused serious injuries, and which have fallen significantly outside the rules of the sport.  Such as a rugby player who had his back to his opponent and had relaxed his body when he was punched in the face from behind, breaking his jaw which needed to be wired taking him out of the game for 6 months.

Gareth represented the family of Harry Sykes at his inquest.  Harry was a 16-year-old Halifax Elite rugby league player who drown on a trip to France.  The inquest had numerous interest persons such as the RFL and Loughborough University and looked at issues such as risk assessments, supervision, health and safety and regulatory compliance and responsibilities.
