Sexual Harassment Legal Advice
Sexual Harassment can come in many forms, and it can be distressing if you are subjected to it. Discrimination and Harassment legislation protects you from unwanted conduct which is related to your sex, and unwanted conduct of a sexual nature or which is related to gender reassignment or sex. It also protects you if you reject such harassment and you are treated less favourably than you would have done had you submitted to the unwanted conduct.
You aren’t only protected if you are female. Men can be subjected to unwanted conduct at the hands of women and even other men.
Examples of unwanted conduct can include:
- Comments and jokes about Stereotypical roles of women;
- Inappropriate sexual advances;
- Verbal abuse because of a refusal of a romantic or sexual relationship;
It can often be very difficult to speak out if you have been the victim of sexual harassment for a variety of reasons which can include the fear of retribution or the fear of simply not being believed. For most of us, work dominates our lives, and when something like this happens in the workplace, it can have devastating implications not only on your physical and mental health but also, if you have to leave your employment, financially too.
It is important to have a compassionate person to speak to, who can discuss your concerns and can listen with no judgement and advise you on your rights and your employer’s obligations. We here at Ison Harrison Solicitors are specialist harassment and discrimination lawyers. Our Head of Department, Mr Yunus Lunat, has been featured on the BBC, Channel 4 and on other news outlets as a leading expert in discrimination.
If you have been sexually harassed at work, it is important to seek advice immediately. There is a very short limitation period for employment claims, and if you miss it you could end up without redress in an employment tribunal. If you would like to discuss an incident that has happened at work then give us a call on 0113 284 5000 or contact a member of our team today via the ‘our people’ page.
