Having stopped running in 2015 after I completed the Brighton Marathon and a number of half marathons, I decided in January last year that I would put my running shoes back on to see if I still have it in me to run the Leeds Half Marathon (despite in the meantime becoming a mum). Unfortunately, Covid then hit and all planned sporting events were put on hold so my motivation to get running also got put on hold along with it.

In February this year, Ison Harrison started the Yorkshire Law Firm Challenge encouraging staff to get active and walk, cycle or run as many “virtual” laps around the perimeter of Yorkshire as we can during 2021 whilst raising money for 5 amazing charities INQUEST, Barnsley Hospice Appeal, Little Hiccups, Erb’s Palsy Group and The Prince of Wales Hospice.

As the country started to open up again, the new date for Leeds Half was announced for Sunday 5 September 2021.

I decided to incorporate my desire to prove I can still run a distance and to raise money for these 5 fabulous charities at the same time.

So running shoes were swiftly dusted off and I slowly built up to 6 miles so I could start training for the 13.1 miles that I was down to do in just 7 months’ time.

So here I am… about to start the real training and to kick it all off I am competing in our firm’s individual June 45 mile Conquer the Coast challenge!

I will be providing weekly updates on how I am getting on with a few posts to spotlight the charities that we raising money for.
