The Ison Harrison team are very proud to announce that we have been shortlisted for four awards at the prestigious ‘Yorkshire Legal Awards’, which are due to be held in October at a glamourous event which is always the highlight of the legal calendar.

Our director and head of corporate and commercial, Richard Coulthard, has been the main driver behind making our submissions for the four categories we have been nominated in, ably supported by Gareth Naylor and Jenny Bland. The black-tie event will be the 25th anniversary of the first Yorkshire Legal Awards, and as the Yorkshire law firm, we are extremely proud to be marking the event with a raft of nominations.

We have been nominated in four categories which demonstrate the breadth and diversity of our expertise in the legal field, these include:

  • Law firm of the year (medium)

In the last five years the company has doubled its turnover to £24m, and this is expected to grow again in 2024 after the recent acquisition of Cohen Cramer Solicitors. Our rapid growth in recent times is also partly due to our conversion to an Employee Ownership Trust in 2021 and opening our 20th regional branch in Selby this year, following on from other recent openings in Queensbury and Doncaster. But mainly we can point to the high calibre, commitment and capability of our team and how we make a positive contribution to the wider community, through our extensive charity work, but also through networking events and podcasts aimed at the business community.

  • Corporate and Commercial

We are specialists in mergers and acquisitions and have undertaken some high-profile projects in the last 12 months. These have included recent work for a South African PLC – Project Pet Food – making its first acquisition in the UK. While Project EOT has seen us expand our specialist knowledge of Employee Ownership Trusts, by drawing on our own experiences to help other organisations on the same path. Finally, we also completed Project CIC, which advised on the complex sale of a community interest company to a US purchaser.

  • Residential Property

From Land Registry records we have established that Ison Harrison is in the Top 20 firms in the country for the number of property transactions that have been registered with the Land Registry. And we are by far the largest company in terms of volume of registrations in Yorkshire. We continue to specialise in new-build and residential conveyancing, as well as Investor conveyancing.

  • Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence

Our specialist Inquest team have continued to successfully represent clients in a number of high-profile and complex inquest hearings. These have included a 22-year-old man who was a detained patient with paranoid schizophrenia, who suffered multiple spinal injuries when he was allowed to leave a mental health unit and subsequently jumped from a tree. Also, we represented the family of a veteran with PTSD, who took his own life after a police force mis-classified his level of risk. We have also successfully represented various other clients with high value claims.

The 25th Yorkshire Legal Awards will be held on October 10th at the First Direct Arena in Leeds. Ison Harrison will be represented by a number of team members on the night, and we look forward to what is always a humbling experience. It is at these type of events that we fully appreciate the high standards and expertise within the Yorkshire legal sector, but we also have clarity on the importance of our role to the Yorkshire community as a top legal resource. We look forward to the evening and will report back with how we fare on the night.
