Today we’re chatting to Afzal Patel, a Solicitor within our Private Family team.
How long have you worked at Ison Harrison?
I joined Ison Harrison in March 2023.
Where did you work previously?
I have previously worked for law firms in Yorkshire.
Describe your day-to-day role
Working through cases, preparing applications and drafting documents. Consultations with existing and new clients. Attending court to represent clients and corresponding with other solicitors. Every day is different.
What is the most interesting part of your job?
Attending court and representing clients appearing before Magistrates and Judges.
What do you find most challenging about your job?
In some cases, the personal circumstances can be emotional when it involves children or when you know people don’t have a lot of money for legal services. You must be reassuring to your client and do the best you can.
What’s the most useful piece of advice you have been given in your career?
Keep clients informed about progress.
What do you like doing in your spare time?
I am a junior cricket coach and try to get a game or go to watch.
I usually play football during the week to keep fit. Otherwise, I spend time with the family and travel when I get the chance. I am usually out and about and not an indoors kind of person.
Any interesting / little known facts about you?
I think am good at general knowledge and a sports quiz and can be competitive especially at sport!
If you weren’t a family lawyer what would you be doing?
I guess it would be something to do with legal work.
How would your friends describe you?
Trustworthy.
What does Ison Harrison being 100% employee-owned mean to you?
